Dear Young Artist,

Please know that the world needs you, so believe in yourself. Throughout human history you have been the deepest agents of change in times desperate for new ways of seeing. You are going through enormous challenges as an individual that no one else can know, and enormous shared challenges as a cohort - terrorism, war, pandemics, climate change, social upheaval, and more. As artists, you must process these experiences and create a personal and deep understanding - more personal and more deep than your own bones - of what the world needs. 

This is the paradox of the artist: the more personal and more deeply felt, the more useful it is to others. Because you give form to human experience, joy, and pain, the world needs you for healing, rethinking, reimagining, and reuniting us to find common meaning.
